Life Around Us

oil on canvas

The life around us is a collection of both the ugly and the beautiful, light and dark, the living and the dead. To me an apple is a symbol of the beautiful, but the dead, freshly dead, while the cockroach is symbol of ugliness that never dies. In strong colors and stronger presence of light and shade, I captured the apple and roach in life around us.

My paintings reflect how I see women. My woman-figures exhibit an indomitable courage to blossom and a reach-out to the sky despite limitless shackles that pull them down. I am fascinated by the all-inclusive and all-round quality of woman. She is a mother, a wife, a lover, a sister, a daughter, and a friend. All in one. She is the one who makes man immortal by carrying Mankind in her womb from generation to generation. We know that man is mortal, but Mankind is immortal and it is woman who makes it possible. She is the inspiration behind all success of man. A constant companion, she is the perpetual and selfless well-wisher, and a constant beneficent of her male counterpart. Nature and woman are same. Like a huge tree, woman also provides shade and shelter to her near and dear ones from the scorching heat of harsh reality. It is she who brings balance and stability in life.

Unfortunately, our male-dominated society exhibits a shameful cowardice in recognizing women potentiality. They become afraid of the thought that social recognition of women's potentials might pull down the fictitious castle of male-chauvinism. Man wish to see women as dull, inanimate objects, not able to challenge their authority. Man wants to keep their reign of control over women intact by denying women access to freedom.  Man feels shaky whenever they sense the rise of women. In my paintings I wanted to pay my tribute to women’s all-winning capability. I feel that women are all-powerful. No matter how inviolable the hindrances are, women can come out victorious. It is in their very nature to reach out for the sky, because, for both Nature and women, only the sky can be the limit. They are meant for blossom, and so no obstacle is strong enough to hold them from blooming up to their full. I believe women possess the ability to transcend the mundane hindrances and reach out for the cosmos.
